This was likely only the third Passover the nation of Israel had observed.  The first was observed in Egypt on the night when God delivered Israel out of Egypt (Ex. 12).  The second was observed a year later at Mount Sinai (Num. 9:1-14).  Now that the men had been circumcised (Josh. 5:1-9), they were able to enter in the celebration of the Passover.
